In terms of chocolate chips, these shards are very good and although they could be chunkier, their size is just perfect for their clean dark chocolate taste and abundance. Texture wise they are crunchy at first and add that nice crisp that chocolate shards often do but they also melt in the mouth and they are thick enough to let go of their taste as they melt instead of disappearing altogether. It’s a dark chocolate taste that’s not super strong in just one flake but with the few that get into every bite, there’s a very prominent chocolate tarte that lingers after every spoonful. Not only is there some shards in every bite but they pack a good taste too. There are shards of chocolate throughout the pint that are less than a millimeter thick and only about the size of my pinkie finer nails but they are everywhere. The next mixin I ran into isn’t mentioned in the description but it’s in the picture on the carton. Burnt is a good word for the taste that the base gives off and it’s definitely a dark, strong Caramel base and not a glorified vanilla. This is for people who like a sweet but still intense and slightly bitter caramel. Maybe that was my mind playing tricks on me or I got used to it very quickly but the caramel was all I tasted from there on. My first bite I tasted something super weird and automatically assumed that was the cashew milk and it would ruin the whole pint. In terms of taste, the base is supposed to be a rich caramel. I was very very happy with the texture and I think those who are lactose intolerant and those who are not would be as well. It’s right in the middle in terms of density and what really struck me is how it stayed so creamy for a non-dairy ice cream. It doesn’t have any grit or chalkiness to it and it really does stay true to the smoothness and creaminess of real ice cream. It melts quickly once it’s it the mouth but instead of becoming a milky liquid, it stays super creamy and smooth. I may even but this above coconut milk in terms of substance. In terms of texture, I was really pleased. After sevenish minutes it was completely ready to go. It was rock hard when I first took it out of the freezer but it seemed to thaw out at a decent pace. There was unmentioned chocolate waiting for me at the top of the pint:Īs usual, I’all start with my thoughts of just the base.

So Delicious makes some of the best non dairy ice creams and they describe this extravagantly as “a sweet and salty delight featuring chocolate covered cashews and a ribbon of salted caramel”.

I chose this ice cream because it promises such an abundance of mix ins and flavors that I’m wondering if the base is even noticeable. I hear that it’s thicker than almond based ice cream and more like the higher quality coconut milk ice cream. I’ve never had cashew milk as a non dairy ice cream before.
